Rock Climbing Routs

Only 3km from the city of Peja towards the Rugova canyon, you will find rock climbing routs. Now in this mountainous territory there are a total of 9 rock climbing zones which are known by different names. The zones are easily accessible and contain from 1 to 20 climbing routs with a length of 10 to 280m and a difficulty of 5 to 8b +. Routs are professionally bolted by local experienced climbers, safety is at the level and the members of association controlling every year in the beginning of the season.

Sector 1 / 3rd Kilometer – is the first area where you can do climbing. There is only 1 path open for climbing which has a length of 35m and difficulty of climbing 7c +. It is an area with good potential for opening new climbing routs.

Sector 2 / 3rd Kilometer – This is the second rock climbing sector which is opened in 2020. This sector is very attractive to stay during the day as you are at an altitude where you have a wonderful view of the Rugova Gorge and the Lumbardhi River. There are 18 climbing routs open in this sector. The length of the routs varies from 15 to 30m while the difficulty from 6a to 7a which are very suitable also for beginners to take a fist lessons for rock climbing. It is a sector which also offers conditions to spend a beautiful day as there is plenty of space and intimacy as long as you have a very beautiful view of the Rugova gorge.

Sector 3 / Jezera – is the third sector in Rugova gorge where you can do rock climbing. It is the place that is most preferred for climbing. There are 10 climbing routs with a length of 10m to 30m while their difficulty is from 5 to 7b. Also, in this area you can do camping as the terrain is very convenient and nearby there is drinking water.

Sector 4 / Born – It is the fourth climbing area which was opened in 2017 by local experienced climbers. There are generally 15 climbing routs which are mostly not difficult (from 5a + to 6c +). It is a very suitable area for climbing even for beginners who want to try and have climbing adventures and also for those who want to develop exercises as the lines have different difficulties and lengths. 

Sector 5 / 5th Kilometer – is the fifth climbing area with a total of 8 climbing routs. It is a preferred place as the routs are of various types with different lengths from 10 to 70m while the difficulty of the routs are from 5 to 8a.

Sector 6 / Spiders Beach – The 6th climbing area is known as “Marimanga beach” and is located only 100m from the fifth climbing zone or just after the first tunnel in the Rugova Gorge. There are 6 climbing routs bolted which have a length of 20 to 30m. It is preferred for professionals as the difficulty of climbing on 4 trails is more overhang and level of climbing is 8 to 8b +.

Sector 7 / Waterfall Sector – This climbing sector is located in the village of Reka e Allaga. It is along the main road which is divided by the river with the same name of the village. More precisely this sector is located near the waterfall path. In this sector there are a total of 15 climbing trails with difficulties from 6 to 7b + and different lengths.

Sector 8 and 9 / Drelaj – There are two climbing sectors in the Drelaj village. The first sector or sector A is located in the village of Drelaj on the hiking trail that connects with Pepaj village. It is the nearest sector where you can do rock climbing activity and is seen right from the village. There you can find very attractive climbing trails with different difficulties ranging from 6 to 7b +, while the lengths of these trails vary from 10 to 30m in height. Sector B is also located in the village of Drelaj approximately 20 min walking distance. To reach this place you have to follow the road that connects with the village Koshutan. Exactly in the place called “Gerla e Koshutanit” there is a very beautiful gorge which has difficulties from 6 to 7c + while the lengths of the trails range from 10 to 20m.
